What customers say

It is hard to find companies that make you feel like they care about more then just the money. We have two dumpsters at two different locations with them and they have been so great to deal with. I highly recommend supporting this business. They seam to be one of the good guys that's left.

What customers say

I appreciate Old North State Junk Removal. I spoke to Lisa when I called to ask about their services, she was very polite and answered all my questions and concerns (I wanted to know that the old paint cans I had would be disposed of properly. She assured me that they would be and how it was done.) I had a lot of junk to get hauled off. Old TV's, old paint cans, old spray paint cans, broken appliances, broken ceiling fans, household items, ect. (Like I said we had a lot of stuff.) When Jim came out to pick up my things, he assured me that the donatable items would be donated and the paint would be properly be disposed of, and the trash would be taken care of as per land fill requirements. I'd thought to do all this myself until I called around learning who would accept what items, WHAT A HEADACHE. That's when I called ONSJR. I'm SO glad I did. : ) I HIGHLY RECOMMEND Jim & Lisa @ ONSJR.

Local Junk Disposal Rules & Recycling Programs in Winston-Salem

  • Regular household trash in Winston Salem is typically collected once a week from city-issued carts placed at the curb or designated pickup point, with carts set out no earlier than the evening before collection and by early morning (often 6–7 a.m.) on pickup day.
  • Recyclables are usually collected on a separate schedule using a dedicated recycling cart; residents should place only accepted materials like clean paper, cardboard, metal cans, and certain plastics in the cart and keep bagged trash, yard waste, and bulky items out of recycling.
  • Bulk items such as furniture, mattresses, and non-hazardous household junk are often collected on scheduled routes or by appointment; items should typically be placed at the curb no earlier than 24 hours before pickup and by 7 a.m. on the scheduled day, with doors removed from appliances for safety.
  • Many city bulk programs in the area have volume limits, often around 5–10 cubic yards per pickup (roughly a pile about the size of a small car: 6 ft wide × 10–15 ft long × 3–4 ft high); larger piles, full-house cleanouts, or multiple loads usually require special arrangements or a private junk removal service.
  • Construction and demolition debris (such as drywall, lumber, roofing, tile, concrete, and large renovation waste) is typically not accepted in regular trash carts or standard bulk pickup; residents are often required to haul it to an approved disposal site, rent a dumpster, or hire a private junk removal or roll-off container service.
  • Hazardous materials like paint, chemicals, automotive fluids, and certain electronics generally cannot go in regular trash or bulk piles; these items usually must be taken to a designated household hazardous waste or special collection facility operated by the county’s solid waste division.
  • When setting out bulk items, residents should keep sidewalks, mailboxes, driveways, fire hydrants, and storm drains clear, placing items close to the curb but not in the street so that collection trucks can safely access them.

Because rules and pickup schedules can change, residents should always confirm the latest trash, recycling, and bulk collection guidelines on the official city or county sanitation website.
